Fairmount Park

our adventures in Fairmount Park

1 Oct '10

Hooray October!!!

My favorite month in my favorite season!!!!! The month of mums, pumpkins, spices, crisp air, and apple pie. As Marlowe kept informing me this morning, dragging a bag of apples around saying "Want make apple pie!!" (this child isn't even 2 1/2 yet)

In which I come in 127th place

Today I ran my first ever 5K race. Pretty incredible to me still, especially considering that a couple of months ago, I would be huffing and puffing just walking that distance. About 8 weeks ago, I joined a gym and promptly started doing the Couch to 5K running plan. I was very Couch. It's a nine week plan, and I admit, that I got to week 6 and stalled out a bit with traveling and wasn't sure about this race I planned for.

Fairmount Park in September

I'm officially a fan of September. After a sizzling summer, September is coming in as a soothing balm.

Ellis had off the last two days of his first week of school for Rosh Hashanah. So on Thursday we enjoyed a crazy trip to the zoo where met up with the family of one of his school mates, which was total last minute Facebook kind of meetup, and great fun for the kids. And on Friday I took the boys for a little hike in Fairmount Park.

Ellis turns 5!!!

FIVE!! Five, five, five. I have a five-year-old. A handful. A veritable kid!! with a long, lean body, the baby fat has gone from his fingers and toes, his shoulders feel firm, strong, muscular.

5 years old!

And what a birthday! Of course, one's fifth birthday must be epic.

for a hike

Ellis slept in his bed all night until after 7 am for the past two nights. Great was the rejoicing! I have renewed energy and spirits, for now. I know we're not immune to the crazies in the sleep dept, but today was lovely. I took the boys to Fairmount Park, the first time I've gone for a little hike in the woods since I was 32 weeks pregnant.

Fairmount Park

Ellis and I took advantage of the slight increase in temperature to go for a walk in Fairmount Park, which is Philly's extensive park system. You can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere but are really in the city's backyard. It's lovely. I finally figured out where to park to actually go for a walk on some trails.
